Kazan. Plan of the city and surrounding area
(19th century)
Relief historical plan of Kazan and surrounding areas reflects the city and its natural environment in the mid of 19th century, accurately reconstructing the terrain.
Geographical names (toponyms) on the map are given according to the rules pre-reform Russian spelling.
The map is made of solid abacha wood, hand-painted with oil paints.
Frame material: mahogany, American walnut.
There is a silver-cast coat of arms of the Kazan province on the cartouche, at the top of the legend. It was approved by Emperor Alexander II in 1856.
The map is designed in a classic color scheme of that time, painted by hand, with oil paints. There were traditional topography and fonts used, legend in the northeast parts taken from a detailed military map along the Russian border with Prussia, composed and engraved in 1799 by His Imperial Majesty Map Depot.
The toponymy and spelling on the map are original, corresponding to the middle of the 19th century. Numbers on the plan indicate 48 objects. List of these objects is placed on the back of the removable nameplate at the bottom of the map.
A scale ruler is also applied, allowing you to measure distances on the map immediately, in meters.
Russian Empire
The historical map of the expeditions of the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute covers the period from 1779 to 1917 and tells about the most important topographical and geodetic works of the institute, participation in major scientific research enterprises.
Geographical names and meanings of settlements correspond to 1917, given according to the rules of pre-reform Russian spelling. The state borders correspond to the beginning of the First World War (1914).
The main historical material for this map are the various cartographic works published in the period from 1914 to 1917. The maps were digitized and then converted to a current projection.
In particular, the "New educational geographical atlas for a complete gymnasium course" and "Complete general map of the Russian Empire" (1914) were used to transfer geographical names, the "Hypsometric map of the Russian Empire" (1914), etc. – to draw borders and orographic names.

Map of military actions against Turkey
(1787-1791)
The map covers the entire theater of the military actions of the allied empires against Turkey in 1787-1791 and reflects the special role of A.V. Suvorov in its victorious outcome.
The map relief is based on materials from modern satellite imagery SRTM, on the inset map (Battle of Rymnik) – on the materials from high-resolution ALOS PALSAR imagery.
The map shows the main events of the war and Suvorov's key victories. The most significant events of the war are shown with dates and commanders (both on land and at sea), troop movements, dates of battles.
In more detail, the inset map shows the Battle of Rymnik, one of the key battles of the war, after which Suvorov began to be named "Count Suvorov-Rymniksky". The map shows in detail the characteristics of the battle formations of the troops, the balance of forces before the battle and its results.
All geographical names, while preserving the original spelling, were transferred from archival maps of the 18th century, covering the territories of the Ekaterinoslav governorship (with acquired territories), the Tauride province, the Caucasus and other lands. Details of the military operations on sea and land are shown in detail, aggregating information from historical and contemporary maps of the war.
